20080407 MCI Biweekly UpdateFrom Mar 24, 2008 to Apr 4, 2008 the MCI index edged up by 7.3 points, increasing from 8081.1 to 8088.4. The slight change in the MCI index over the past two weeks (still hovering near the 8000 level) shows the rather hesitant mood of the market. Factors such as rising oil prices, inflation problems, weaker than expected TV panel sales and the prospect of a US slowdown could weaken the overall LCD market fundamentals. A close eye needs to be kept on whether these negative factors seriously affect the profits of panel makers.... more

Syntax-Brillian Announces Strategic Manufacturing Agreement with Compal Electronics in Fox Business
Syntax-Brillian Corporation (Nasdaq:BRLC) today announced that it has formed a strategic contract manufacturing partnership with Compal Electronics (TSE:2324), the world's second largest producer of laptop PCs for Tier One global partners.
Under the terms of the agreement, Compal will immediately begin manufacturing an initial order for 300,000 Olevia LCD HDTVs at its two-million square foot production facilities in Kunshan, China. In addition to providing assembly, testing and quality control services, Compal's procurement team will be responsible for sourcing and securing the LCD panels used to produce Olevia LCD HDTVs... |

WitsView FPD Street Price Survey: Prices up for below 42" TV and 20W Monitor; 20W lower than 19" for the first time
According to WitsView's March, 2008 worldwide street price survey, the 42" and below sizes increased by 0.6%~4.2%. Most of the market segments experienced small price fluctuations. But in Japan, due to the introduction of several new models in March, it contributed to the sharp rise in the average price. In the PDP segment, excluding price increases in the 50" and above, most of the other sizes fell sharply. For Monitors, prices were up in the 15"~19" portion, whether widescreen or 4:3 models. In addition, for the first time, the average price of the 20W fell below the 19". WitsView believes the price increases in several of the FPD products does not represent they are becoming more expensive.... |
